Zabih Ullah Maroof


Dr Zabihullah Maroof has completed his Bachelor of medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Mazar-e-Sharif Medical Institute in 2000. He has been working in the IGICH (Indiragandhi Institute of Child Health, Kabul Afghanistan) since Feb 2002 and he is doing his post graduation in this Institute. At the same time he has been involved in public health related issues. He has worked as a Master trainer in the CAF (Care of Afghan Families) a national NGO running some health projects in different parts of Afghanistan. He has attended trainings such as Management of severe Malnutrition, ARI, CDD, AIDS, HMIS and IMCI. He has been trained on Pediatrics in AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) for 3 month (from June-October, 2004).

Manjula Singh


Having attained a post graduate degree in Social work from Delhi School of Social Work, University of Delhi (1997-99) and a Diploma in Human Resource Development from All India Institute of Management Studies, New Delhi (1998-99), Manjula, worked for five and a half years with CARE India, an International Private Voluntary organization (July 1999- January 2005). She started her career as a National Fellow and in a span of four years worked as a Field officer in DFID Funded Adolescent Reproductive Health project, Uttar Pradesh, India; Project Co-ordinator in Packard Foundation funded, Reproductive Health Gujarat Rehabilitation program. For the past two years she worked as a Program officer in Delhi, India, spearheading urban HIV/AIDS Prevention Program for vulnerable populations including commercial sex workers, truck drivers and youth. This has involved first hand experience in strategy development, program management, project implementation and management. One of her greatest strengths has been as a team player and she has contributed significantly as a member of various Task Forces both within the program and in the larger organization. Experience in people management with high-level interpersonal and representational skills, an ability to multi task to meet deadlines and perform in adverse conditions.

Lakshmi Durga Chava


Lakhsmi Durga Chava has completed Masters degree in Food and Nutrition from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University, Hyderabad. She also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business and Administrative Management and undergone specialized trainings in Participatory Project Management, Management Development Programme and Human Rights. She worked for CARE-AP in Acute Respiratory Infections project. She selected for Government service in 1994 executed ICDS projects in Rural, Tribal and Urban areas of the state. She also worked as Monitoring Officer for 5 years in State Project Management unit, World Bank Assisted ICDS Project. She has been nominated as the member of State Resource Group for Health and HIV/AIDS programs in the state and provided technical inputs in development of training modules for grass root functionaries. 
Currently, she is working as Project Manager for Health and Nutrition interventions in Andhra Pradesh Rural Poverty Reduction Project implemented by Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty under the Department of Rural Development. She has participated in many workshops organized at state and National level. She demonstrated her skills in building networks with both Government and Non Government Organisations and International Organisations like CARE,UNICEF, DFID and UNIFEM in operationalisation of Health and Nutrition interventions to reach the communities by involving stakeholders of the program.

Philemon Yugi has been coordinating HIV/AIDS program in East and Central Africa for Adventist Development and Relief Agency Africa regional Office (ADRA AFRO) with focus in Kenya, Rwanda and Congo (DRC). He has extensive work experience in the area of HIV/AIDS, rural health service delivery, emergency relief and development. He has also attended and facilitated a number of workshops in HIV/AIDS, community development and, Syndromic Management of STIs. Yugi holds a Masters in Psychology form Varanasy Sanscrit V. and Bachelor of Liberal Arts in psychology and Health Science from Spicer Memorial College, India, a Diploma in Community Development form PREMESE Africa and a certificate in Community Health Nursing, Kenya.

Netra Prasad Bhatta


Netra Prasad Bhatta has completed his Master degree in Sociology from Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu (2004). He also has B.Sc. Nursing degree from CMC, Vellore, India (1999) and Bachelor in education from Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu (1994). He has more than 12 years of extensive working experiences in health and development field especially in child survival programs. He has been working as a CORE Coordinator for CORE group Nepal based in Kathmandu. He is overall responsible for planning, coordinating, facilitating, supervising, managing, monitoring and evaluating the child health program including polio eradication, IMCI and positive deviance nutrition (PD/Hearth). In the past, Netra worked as an IMCI coordinator (August, 2003-2004) for CORE group based in Kathmandu and Child survival coordinator (July 2000-2003) for save the children US in Nuwakot. He also worked as a district health program officer for UMN/CDHP in Makwanpur (April-Aug. 2000). Netra has attended the number of national and international level trainings, workshops and seminars related to health and development including communication, child survival and HIV/AIDS.

Najia Rafiq Paracha has recently completed a diploma in development studies from IQRA University, Islamabad, Pakistan with special emphasis on research methodology, reproductive health, gender issues and statistical tools for social sciences. Najia also has a Masters in Business Administration from Bahria University, Islamabad, Pakistan. Currently, she is working as a free-lance consultant on Behavior Change Communication interventions with Family Health International and Reproductive Rights Awareness Research with School of Human Rights. Previously, from 2002 to 2004, Najia worked in various positions; last being Manager Projects with a Reproductive Health Consultancy Firm (RH-AID) in Islamabad, Pakistan. Her professional experience includes designing and development of Behavior Change Communication and IEC interventions on HIV/AIDs, Reproductive Health and public health campaigns with specific communities, project management, quantitative and qualitative research, base line and needs assessments. Besides this she has also attended various Youth Leadership trainings in Reproductive Health with Population Council and World population Fund, Pakistan.

Emily, a cum laude graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Nursing at St. Paul College of Manila, Philippines, has 14 years of working experience that covers clinical nursing, public health and capacity development activities. Eight years was devoted to working in a tertiary private hospital providing clinical nursing care to patients, and leading a post-graduate training program for hospital staff. Six years was devoted to working with an international non-government organization, being involved in the assessment, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of community health projects, using participatory approaches. Capacity development is one of her key competencies, having a total of eleven years experience, with focus on conducting international courses, customized trainings, study programs and village level trainings on community-managed health systems, training of trainers, participation, PRA tools and techniques, clinical nursing and other health conditions. She is currently a Program specialist on Community health and training of the Regional Center for Asia, at the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR).

Victoria Nankabirwa has a Bachelors in Medicine and Bachelors in Surgery, from the Makerere University Medical School {2003]. She has a certificate in Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health. She has been involved in a number of workshops. Recently [Feb 2004-August 2004] she worked as an intern in the Dept of Pediatrics and Child health Mulago Hospital. She rotated at the Dept of Gynecology and Obstetrics, coping with the pediatric ward, seeing patients in the outpatients department and teaching interns and students nurses. Nankabirwa also spent time doing elective at the King's College Hopsital, London.

Nabudere Harriet has a Bachelors in Medicine and Bachelors in Surgery, from the Makerere University Medical School from 1992-1998. From 2002, she has been working as a Senior Medical officer with International Medical Group, and she was the Medical Officer from August 1999 onwards. International Medical Group is a private healthcare management organization comprised of International Hospital Kampala, International Air Ambulance clinic and International Medical Centre. Nabudere also works part time with a senior consultant paediatrician in a private practice. She attended a number of workshops and seminars.

Rowan Wagner


Rowan Wagner has a Bachelors in Science from the University of Central Arkansas, Community Health Education, (1998). His area of work is in strategic planning, funding raising, program/project development and is a member of the Core Working Group on Social and Behavioral Change and TB. He has worked in a number of countries, including Turkmenistan, Moldova, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. Current work experience (April-June 2004) has been as materials developer for the British Council in Uzbekistan. He has relevant training on leadership development, advanced training on 2nd Generation HIV Surveillance, CDC in 2002. Rowan was part of the health delegate of the RED Cross (June 2001-2004) and in the past as worked as a Peace Volunteer in the Peace Corps, Kazakhstan (1999-2001).

Abdus Salam Khan


Abdus Salam Khan has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Wales, UK, in 2002. His previous degrees include a Masters of Science (1988) and Bachelors of Science (1987) in Statistics from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is currently working in government, as an Assistant Chief in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bangladesh Secretariat. His responsibilities are in the area of health, nutrition and population sector program including resource allocation among the operational plans. In the past he worked at the Health Wing, Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division in the Planning Commission. His responsibilities were planning, processing and monitoring health related development projects implemented by the different ministries (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Home, Ministry of Social welfare, Ministry of local government and rural development), processing of Health, Nutrition and Population Sector Programme (HNPSP) for ECNEC approval, preparing Annual Development Programme, attending/conducting various meetings with the donors and the government high officials, minutes writing. He also worked in the Ministry of Water Resources, Bangladesh Secretariat (1998-2000). He has also lectured at the Department of Statistics in both Comilla (1996-1998: Government Victoria College, Comilla) and Kushtia (1993-1996), teaching both Intermediate and Masters students. Abdus Salam Khan has attended a number health sector related trainings and workshops in Bangladsh as well as in the United Kindom, Filippines, Malaysia, Indonesia.

Abul Hasanat Mostaque Ahmed


Abul Hasanat Mostaque Ahmed has an MBBS (1993) from Chittagong Medical College, Chittagong University. He has been working in BRAC since 1998. He is currently a Senior Medical Officer in a BRAC Health Centre in Mymensingh (2003-present). His work responsibilities include management of staff and clinic, attending to patients in Outdoor, Emergency and ensuring obstetric care, and coordinating with government, NGO workers and community leaders. In the past, he worked as a Medical officer in the Reproductive Health and Disease Control Program (Dec 2000) at BRAC. Previously, Abul Hasanat worked in another NGO  Gonoshasthaya Kendra [GSK] as a Medical Officer. He has had training in Syndromic Management of RTIs and STDs and Menstrual Regulation.

He is currently the Assistant Registrar, Department of Surgery, Bangladesh Medical College (1997-present). He has over 15 years of clinical experience and would like to attend the MPH course to improve his knowledge in health care. Anupama Haque (Pinky)


Anupoma Haque (Pinky) has obtained her Bachelor's of Dental Surgery from the University of Dhaka in 2002. Since then she has worked in two Oral and Maxillo-facial surgery clinics as Associate Dentist. She has worked as an educator for adolescents for one year (2004). She is currently conducting private research on the prevalence of caries and malocclusion in early school age group children to determine the need for early professional intervention. She worked as a trainer for School Dental Health Education program (2003) organized by Dhaka Dental College & Hospital under the supervision of World Health Organization (WHO). She strives to increase her knowledge in public health issues and methodologies and make a linkage between oral health and public health. Her key interest is research and involving the community in health and development programs.

Ayesha Sania has an MBBS from Dhaka Medical College (2003). In the past she has carried out research (2001) on the Assessment of Nutritional status of people residing in a village of Gazipur Union. She has also had internship training in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics (April 2003- April 2004). Ayesha is currently working as a lecturer in Community Medicine at the Bangladesh Medical College and Research Institute (BMSRI). Ayesha has also been awarded a number of scholarships for her academic work. In the past she has worked as an Instructor in first aid and anti drug addiction activity (2003). She is the founder member and former secretary for Medical Affairs, SHEBA - humanitarian association for students.

Her thesis explored Prostitution in Bangladesh. Since 2004, she is working as a Program Associate at the Bangladesh Centre for Communication Programs (BCCP). From July 2001-2002, Humaira worked at the Social Marketing Company as a Communication Aide to the STD/AIDS prevention program.

Mr. Khurshid Alam did his Master of Demography from the Institute of Statistical Research & Training (ISRT), University of Dhaka (1997) and Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights and Legal Aid from the Humanist and Ethical Association of Bangladesh (HEAB) (2003). He has earned about 6 years of experiences in public health, population and livelihood working with CARE Bangladesh, Family Health International/USAID, LIFT Standards Ltd., Bangladesh Women's Health Coalition (BWHC), HIV/AIDS and STD Alliance Bangladesh (HASAB) and SURCH. Prior to attending the MPH program he was working for CARE Bangladesh in its Rural Maintenance Program (RMP) as a Technical Officer- Research and Partnering. His expertise developed in designing and conducting research, program designing and coordination, monitoring and supervision, developing partnership, designing and developing advocacy, training and communication materials, and facilitation. Khurshid has attended a number of professional training, workshops and seminars both at national and international level. He has also published a number of reports.

Mizanur Rashid Shuvra has an MBBS from Dhaka University (Mymensingh Medical College) in 2002. His main background is in the area of medical education but he is keen to develop his career in the field of public health. Shuvra has carried out a number of studies/workshops on problem-based learning:Feasibility on problem based learning in Mymensingh medical college (2002-2003); orientation workshops on problem based learning in different medical college of Bangladesh WHO-CME. Nabeel Ashraf Ali has Bachelors from Minessota State University at Moorhead, USA in Philosophy. Despite his background, Nabeel has worked exclusively in the area of Public health for the past few years (1999-2004). He is currently working as a Senior Research Officer at the Center for Health and Population Research, ICDDR, B. He is responsible for process documentation as well as behavioral change communication in research and intervention. He is also responsible for primary and secondary data analysis and report writing. In the past, Nabeel worked at John Snow Inc, Family Planning Research and Training Institute as a data manager (1999-2003). He has presented his work in a number of forums and has one publication in the Journal of Biosocial Science (2004).

Rumana Jesmin Khan has an MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College, University of Dhaka (2000). Her research project was on Practices of contraceptive methods among the 3rd and 4th class employees of Medical College and Mitford Hospital. Rumana has a Masters of Science in Health Economics (2003) from the Institute of Health Economics, University of Dhaka. Her thesis explored myocardial infarction patients in Dhaka city and its relationship to household income. Rumana is currently working as a Medical Officer in PSKP Family Health Partnership clinic (May 2001-till now). She is also a part time lecturer at South East University in Dhaka. Rumana has done one year internship training in Mitford Hospital (May 2000-2001). She also has completed an introductory course on Epidemiology held by ICDDR,B in March 2001. Rumana has a number of publications and abstracts.

Selim Reza has an MBBS (1997) from Shere-Bangla Medical College, Barisal, affiliated with University of Dhaka. Selim Reza is currently working in BRAC, Afghanistan as Manager-Technical Services, PPA Project (World Bank project), BRAC health program (2004 - present). His work responsibilities are extensive. He has 6 years of management experience in public health program focusing on health, nutrition and population interventions. Selim has received extensive training and attended a number of workshops on: management of diabetic emergency and basic knowledge on diabetes; basic training on STDs; EPI; ARI and HepB. In the past, (2001-2003) Selim worked as an Operations and Surveillance Officer on Immunization and Child Health, a USAID funded project. Before that, Selim worked as a Medical Officer in Reproductive health and disease control project of BRAC (1999-2001).

Sohely Rahman has an MBBS from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College (1994). Since 2003, she has been working as a Medical Officer at the Bangladesh Women's Health Coalition (BWHC) Project on RTI/STD/AIDS Program. In 2003, she served as a Centre Manager at BWHC in Jatrabari. Sohely has successfully completed a Diploma in STD/AIDS from a Consortium of Thai Training Institutes for STDs and AIDS. She has extensive practical experience working with sex workers in Dhaka city and elsewhere and is interested in expanding her knowledge in public health.

Taskeen Chowdhury


Taskeen Chowdhury has a Masters in Nutrition from the University of Dhaka (1994). She is currently working as an Analysis and Reporting Officer in Helen Keller International (HKI), Bangladesh (2001-present). She has extensive experience in analysis of survey data as well as monitoring and observing field teams for data collection in rural areas. Before joining HKI Taskeen had been involved in several research projects (funded by WHO, BMRC etc.) in the capacity of Research Fellow. In addition to her academic training in food and nutrition, she also has a wide range of training in the subjects of epidemiology and biostatistics, Food and Nutrition security, data analysis, ArcView GIS and communication skills. She has attended several national and international conferences on nutrition and has several publications to her credit.
