|Dr. Alayne ADAMS
Dr. Alayne Adams is Professor at the School, Director of its new Centre for Urban Equity and Health (CUEH), Senior Social Scientist in the Centre for Equity and Health Systems at icddr,b and an Adjunct Professor at Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University. As a mixed method social scientist, her academic and professional career has focused on equity and the social determinants of health in Africa and South Asia. Current research activities concern urban health systems challenges as they affect health equity, and the design of intersectoral and community-based solutions that respond to the needs of the urban poor and disadvantaged. She is a founding faculty member of the MPH program, and continues to coordinate both the introductory and applied anthropology/ qualitative methods modules. She is playing a leadership role in taking forward the School’s initiative on Reforming Public Health Education for the 21st Century, and co-directs CUEH’s IDRC supported “Urban Governance for Health Equity Project”. She also serves as a senior technical advisor to the Food Security and Nutrition Surveillance Project. She obtained her Masters in Human Nutrition and PhD in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and completed post-doctoral studies at Harvard University.
