DISSEMINATION SEMINAR ON HEALTH CARE FOR FORCIBLY DISPLACED MYANMAR NATIONALS (FDMNS) –ACCESS, BEHAVIOUR AND THE CHALLENGES

Coxs Event

BRAC JPG School of Public Health, BRAC University hosted a dissemination event on the 15th of April, 2019 at the Sayeman Hotel in Cox’s Bazar. Findings from two implementation research projects on the various health aspects of the Rohingya community were shared with academics, researchers and programme staff of organizations. The first study focused on the morbidity pattern of the displaced Rohingya population, their health seeking behaviour and facility utilization. The second study concerned with the needs assessment and a situation analysis of sexual and reproductive health care. The projects were funded by BRAC and the World Health Organization (WHO) respectively.
The event also featured a panel discussion with experts from the fields of humanitarian aid and public health. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Mohammed Abul Kalam, Commissioner of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission (RRRC); with Special Guest Dr. Mohammad Abdul Matin, Civil Surgeon at the Directorate of General Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Welfare (MoHFW). They provided a review of the Rohingya refugee situation, highlighting key areas of concern, expressing the need for sustainable economic support to set demand based services and facilities in the camps. Professor Zahidul Quayyum ended the ceremony by thanking the participants and the researchers from the two projects.

THE CENTRE FOR NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AND NUTRITION (CNCDN) OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED

CNCDN Launch

BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health (BRAC JPGSPH), BRAC University organized the launching ceremony of the ‘Centre for Non-Communicable Diseases and Nutrition (CNCDN)’ at the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) on April 3, 2019. The Centre was founded with the aim to prevent and control NCDs and malnutrition in Bangladesh.

Professor Dr. AHM Enayet Hussain, Additional Director General of Health Services (Planning and Development), DGHS, MoHFW, was the ‘Chief Guest’ at the event. Professor Vincent Chang, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University; Professor Zafar Ahmed Latif, Director General, BIRDEM and Professor Faridul Alam, Vice Chancellor, BUHS attended the launch as ‘Guests of Honor’. The launch was also attended by nominated “Focal Persons” from the founding partner organizations.

Professor Chang, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University delivered the welcome speech at the launch. Dr. Malay Kanti Mridha, Director CNCDN gave a presentation titled ‘Overview on Center for Non-Communicable Diseases and Nutrition’. The attending representatives from the founding partner organization officially launched the Centre by signing the memorandum of understanding. The event concluded with the closing remarks from the Chief Guest, Professor Enayet Hussain.

TV Series - "Icche Dana"

UNICEF in collaboration with Asiatic 360 rolled out an Entertainment-Education campaign addressing issues such as child marriage and other critical behaviours like menstrual hygiene, adolescent health, sexual abuse, and harassment. BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health (JPGSPH), BRAC University intends to evaluate the social and normative impact of this Edutainment campaign among adolescents and their parents. Part of the media campaign includes a 26 episode TV series - "Icche Dana", which is aired on three different channels - BTV (Saturday at 7.10 PM), ATN Bangla (Tuesday at 8 PM) and Duranta TV (Friday at 9.30 PM).
